Bangladesh Lighthouse Bill placed in JS
SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 15, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Lighthouse Bill, 2020 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today for enacting a time-befitting law, scraping the existing Lighthouse Act, 1927.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury placed the bill in the parliament with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Later, the bill was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping for further scrutiny within 10 days.
The Bangladesh Lighthouse Bill, 2020 has been prepared as a time-befitting one for maintaining and controlling the lighthouses set up in different coastal areas, according to the bill.
There are now three lighthouses in different coastal areas of the country, it said, adding process is underway to set up four more lighthouses in the coastal areas.
