Two drug peddlers killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR, Jan 15, 2020 (BSS) – Two suspected drug peddlers were killed
in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on the Cox’s
Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road early today.

RAB sources said the deceased were identified as Abdul Hasim, 30 and Md
Ayub, 28. Both used to live in Kutupalong Refugee Camp in Ukhia upazila.

Hoaikyang Camp In-Charge of RAB-15 Assistant Superintendent of Police Shah
Alam said, on information, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in
Shyamlapur area near the seaside road.

Sensing their presence, the drug traders opened fire on them and forcing them
to fire back which led to a gunfight. At one stage of the battle, the drug
peddlers fled the scene.

The RAB men found two bullet-hit bodies after searching the area. They
were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared
them dead.

Three RAB personnel were also injured in the gunfight, the ASP said,
adding that they recovered 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets, two shooter guns,
and five rounds of bullet from the spot.

The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue and a case was
filed in this connection, Shah Alam said.
