Bangladesh Engineering Research Council Bill-2020 placed in JS
SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 15, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Engineering Research Council Bill, 2020 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today to promote engineering research as well as ensure standard of technology for their pragmatic uses.
Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman placed the bill in the parliament with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Later, the bill was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology for further scrutiny within 45 days.
Noting that no council was formed, earlier, for engineering research, the proposed law said “It is necessary to enact the Bangladesh Engineering Research Council Act-2020 to build a relation among the engineering institutions for coordinating the research activities carried out by different engineering institutions, commercializing the research outcomes and accepting, integrating and
adopting the imported technologies”.
Once the law is enacted, it will ensure environment-friendly and climate change resilient technology and effective use of engineering education in ensuring sustainable national development, it said.
According to the bill, a 10-member governing body headed by a chairman will run the council whereas it will have an advisory body headed by the Science and Technology Minister.
