Govt to build four treatment plants to check river pollution: Tazul
SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 15, 2020 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam today informed the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that four sewerage treatment plants will be built to check water pollution in rivers surrounding the capital city.
“The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) has already formulated a sewerage master plan to check water pollution in rivers surrounding the capital city. As per the plan, four sewerage treatment plants will be built to this end,” he said, replying to a starred question made by Jatiya Party lawmaker Salma Islam in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Currently, as part of the master plan, a treatment plant titled ‘Dasherkandi Sewerage Treatment Plant’ is under construction, Tajul said, adding that after completion of the construction work, the pollution through direct discharging of waste to the rivers will be stopped in a great extend.
