None involved in drug trading will be spared: Home Minister

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2020 (BSS) – Issuing a note of warning against the people
involved in illegal drug trading as well casino business, Home Minister
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said none will be spared for their misdeeds
whatever they are billionaires or politicians.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not only declared zero tolerance against
illegal drugs, but she is also committed to establish good governance in the
country,” he said while inaugurating software of the Department of Narcotics
Control (DNC) as the chief guest in city’s Segunbagicha.

Director General of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) organised the
function over launching of Narcotics Information Management System (NIMS)
website and TVC with its Director General Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed in the chair.

In collaboration with Korea, the website NIMS was inaugurated with a view
to updating cases, license management, sample analysis management and
operation so that law enforcement agencies can prevent drug use and build
awareness against illicit drugs.

Among others, service division secretary Md Shahiduzzaman spoke on the
occasion as the special guest, while Director of Narcotics Division, SPO,
Republic of Korea Won Jiae was present.

The minister said people, who earn money illegally by selling drugs, spend
the money on casino business, adding, “But we are not sparing anyone involved
in the casino trading.”

Replying to a query over drive against illegal drug trading, Kamal said
drives against drugs has not been stopped, the law enforcement agencies
arrested drug traders and their financiers.

“We have already detained drugs tycoons. Apart from this, we are also
trying to discourage people from consuming abusive drugs. As part of these
activities, the government inaugurated TVC to discourage people from taking
abusive drugs,” he said.

The home minister said consumption of drugs and tobacco across the country
has declined to a great extent due to sincere efforts of the present
government.

The government brought helicopter for Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for
enhancing patrol in remote bordering areas with a view to stop smuggle of
illegal drugs from neighboring country Myanmar, the minister said, adding
that the government has also strengthen capacity of Bangladesh Coast Guard.
