UK’s Bangladesh mission to hold 30 programmes marking ‘Mujib Year’

2057

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in London will hold
30 different programmes in the UK to celebrate birth centenary of Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the ‘Mujib Year’ from
March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021.

“The main objective of our celebration is to project the life, works and
ideology of Bangabandhu in front of the British and British-Bangladeshi
community especially the young generation,” Bangladesh High Commission to the
UK Saida Muna Tasneem told newsmen at a press briefing at Bangladesh mission
in London on Friday, according to a message received here today.

As part of the programmes, the high commission will organize a children
festival that includes competition of essay writing and painting on the life
of Bangabandhu.

On January 10, 1972, Bangabandhu returned to an independent and sovereign
Bangladesh after spending nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistan
jail. He was flown in by a British Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft from London
en-route New Delhi.

The Bangladesh mission in the UK has taken initiatives to preserve the
documents related to Bangabandhu’s stopover in London before returning home
in 1972, Tasnim said.

At the press briefing a documentary film on Bangabandhu’s Home Coming day
was also screened.

The Bangladesh mission’s website was updated by including the ‘Mujib Year’
logo marking the countdown to the Birth Centenary of Bangladesh’s founding
father.
