PM mourns death of AL MP Dr Mozammel

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Awami League (AL) lawmaker and valiant freedom fighter Dr Mozammel Hossain.

In a condolence message, the premier recalled with profound respect his
outstanding contribution to the Liberation War and the Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina said Dr Mozammel played an important role in the development of his constituency when he was a cabinet minister and a lawmaker.

“The nation has lost a valiant freedom fighter, while Bangladesh Awami
League has lost a dedicated leader in his death,” she added.

The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and
conveyed her profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Dr Mozammel Hossain, who was elected as an MP from Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj-Sharankhola) constituency, passed away at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in the capital in the early hours of today at the age of 80.

He was first elected an MP from Bagerhat-1 in 1991 and later Bagerhat-4
for five times in 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2018.

Dr Mozammel was the state minister for Social Welfare and Women and
Children Affairs Ministry in 1996 and the chairman of the parliamentary
standing committee on the Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs
Ministry in the 9th and 10th Jatiya Sangsad.
