Tk 23,383 cr allocated for health sector

DHAKA, June 7, 2018 (BSS)- Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith today
proposed an allocation of Taka 23,383 crore (development and non development
budgets combined) for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for 2018-19
fiscal.

Under the budget, Taka 9,118 crore was proposed for non-development
expenditure and 9,041crore for development expenditure of health services
division.

A total of Taka 3,124 crore was proposed for non-development expenditure
and 2,100 crore for development expenditure of medical education and family
welfare division.

While placing the budget in the Parliament, the finance minister said,
“We have taken steps for implementation of a sector wide programme under 29
Operational Plans during period from 2017 to 2022.”

Services like providing nutrient foods and health services to mothers
and children, quality general and specialised health services for all,
control of communicable and non-communicable diseases and diseases caused by
climate change, development of modern and efficient medicine sector and
skilled manpower, will be provided under this programme, he said.
“Because of our people-oriented health services programme, the maternal
mortality rate has dropped to 1.76 per 1,000 live births which was 2.59 in
2009,” Muhith said.

Expressing satisfaction over reduction of child mortality rate he said,
“The child mortality rate has declined due to expansion of immunisation
programme. Currently, child mortality rate is 28 per 1,000 live births
compared to 39 in 2009. And the immunization rate of infants less than one
year is 82.3 per cent and the rate of feeding vitamin A capsule is 92 per
cent.”
