Atique demands capital punishment for rapist of DU student
DHAKA, Jan 7, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor
candidate Md Atiqul Islam today demanded capital punishment for the rapist of
Dhaka University student, who was raped in city’s Kurmitola area on Sunday
evening while going to her friend’s house.
Terming the rapist as an animal, he said, “We demand immediate arrest of
the criminal and highest punishment.” “We will arrange sufficient light in
the dark area of the city,” he added.
He was speaking at a human chain in front of Government Titumir College in
city’s Gulshan area. Atiqul said, “Dhaka will be a women-friendly city where
men, children, old and differently-abled people will be able to live safely,”
he said.
“This will be an inclusive city where every person can commute through road
and pavement safely,”
College Principal Ashraf Hossain, Vice-Principal Abida Sultana, Bangladesh
Chhatra League (BCL) former acting president Joydeb Nandi, Titumir College
unit BCL general secretary Mahmudul Huq Jewel Morol and its former general
secretary Manik Hossain, among others, were present on the occasion.
Titumir College unit BCL preisdnet Ripon Mia presided over the rally.
