City polls defer demanded for Saraswati Puja

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikyo Parishad today demanded to defer the upcoming Dhaka city corporation elections for Saraswati Puja scheduled on January 30.

Both organizations in favor of their demand have submitted a written letter to the Chief Election Commission.

They informed that Saraswati Puja, a religious festival of the Hindu community, will be held on January 30.

Saraswati Puja is celebrated at all educational intuitions in the both (DNCC & DSCC) city corporations. To ensure security and to hold a free- fair election, the election conducting authority has to control all educational institutions at least one day before election. So it will create problems in the same day to celebrate puja and holding election.

They demanded to shift the date of city poll for celebrating their religious festival Saraswati Puja. Otherwise, the institutions where will be celebrated puja, in that institutions not to set up voting centre.

Puja Udjapan Parishad President Milon Kanti Dotto and General Secretary Nirmol Kumar Chatterjee singed at the letter.

Besides, Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikyo Parishad said in their memorandum, Saraswati Puja will be celebrated at Panchomi Tithi on basis of Tithi and counting.

According to the register, in this year Saraswati Puja is set to January 29 and 30.
