8-km viaduct of MRT becomes visible

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS) – The progress work of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line-6 with a target to complete its construction by 2021 is going on round the clock as 8.50-kilometer viaduct from Uttara to Agargaon part of the metro-rail has become visible now.

“The overall construction work progress of 20-kiolomtere-long elevated metro-rail from Uttara to Motijheel has stood at 40.02 percent. Around 66.85 percent work of Agargaon to Motijheel part has been completed,” Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) M A N Siddique told BSS here today.

He said at present 8.50-kilometer viaduct out of 11.73-kilometer metro- rail between Uttara and Agargaon has become visible, adding, “The construction work of MRT Line-6 in Dhaka city under the Fast Track projects is going on in full swing.”

According to the project details, the total 20-kilomtere metro-rail project is being done in eight packages while the land development work of depot (package-I) area has been completed which started on September 8, 2016. The work of depot has been finished nine months ahead of the scheduled time, which saved Taka 70.58 crore.

The progress of civil work under the package-II is 60 percent and the rest of the work will be finished within its schedule time and some 52 infrastructure will be constructed under the package, it said.

Under the package 3 and 4 from Uttara North to Agargaon construction of 11.73 km viaduct and nine stations, the overall progress was visible 65.04 percent, while construction of sub-structure under nine stations have been completed.

Besides, the construction progress of 3.195 kilometer viaduct and three stations of the metro rail from Agargaon to Karwanbazar rose to 36.23 percent.

Apart from this, 38.54 percent construction work out of 4.922 kilometer viaduct and four stations of Karwan Bazar to Motijheel part of the MRT Line-6 was done under package-VI.

On February 16 in 2019, the Japanese company has started building of bogies for MRT Line-6 under the package 8th (Rolling Stock and Depot Equipment Collection).

Meanwhile, the real progress of Rolling Stock (Rail Coach) and collection of Depot Equipment is 20.50 percent under the package-VIII, while progress of electrical and mechanical system under the package-VII rose to 29.42 percent so far.
