13 candidates get back candidature after appeal hearing: City poll

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS) – Thirteen candidates got back their candidature for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election through appeal hearing.

A total of 10 candidates from DSCC and three from DNCC got their candidature.

On the other hand, the appeal authority upheld the decision that declared the candidature of Jatiya Party’s candidate GM Kamrul Islam after scrutinizing nomination papers.

The appeal hearing was held today at the office of Dhaka Divisional Commissioner at Segunbagicha here.

The authority of Dhaka City corporations’ election has disapproved one candidate’s appeal.

Acting Commissioner of Dhaka Divisional office Selim Reza told journalists that one mayoral candidate and 18 councilor candidates of DNCC had applied to get back their candidature.

Appeal hearing of one mayoral and five councilor candidates was held today.

Three candidates have been declared valid while application of one aspirant has been rejected.

The candidates who declared valid are Mirza Mohammad Elias of ward no-52); and SM Rezaul Islam and M Faysal Amin Melon of ward no-11.

The application of Rohul Amin, councilor candidate of ward no-5, has been rejected for loan default.

As well the election authority has rejected the application of Syed Hasan Mahmud against Sheikh Amir Hossain, the candidate of ward no-3.

Meanwhile, 10 councilor candidates of DSCC have got their candidature by appeal hearing, 24 candidates have been applied. 13 candidates hearing held today.

The declared valid candidates from DSCC by appeal hearing are Abdullah Al Mamun and Atarab Rahman of ward no-75, Apple Mahmud of ward number 55, Selim Reza from 58, Abdur Rahim Babu and Anwar Parvez Badol ward-28, Abu Sayeed ward no-35, Hossain Mia from 59, Abdul Motaleb from ward 19 and Md Shohel from 61 ward.

Besides, the city election authority has rejected the application of Hasina Alam against reserved woman councilor candidate Johra Khanam Joba.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development and ICT) AKM Masuduzzaman and Director (Local Government) M Idris Siddique were present during the appeal hearing.
