DU student raped in Kurmitola
DHAKA, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS) – A second-year student of Dhaka University (DU)
was allegedly tortured and raped by unidentified man or men in the capital’s
Kurmitola area on Sunday night.
Police said her fellow students brought her to Dhaka Medical College
Hospital around midnight and admitted her at the hospital’s One Stop Crisis
Centre.
The incident happened while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a
friend’s place in Khilkhet’s Shewra area after getting down from a university
bus around 7:30pm, her fellow classmates said.
Soon after getting down from the bus, some unknown persons grabbed her from
behind, gagged and brought her to a secret place nearby where she became
unconscious. She was raped and physically tortured there, they said quoting
the victim.
They also said that the girl regained her consciousness around 10pm and
discovered herself in an isolated place. Later, she hired a CNG-run auto-
rickshaw and went to her friend’s house.
On information, her friends took her to the DMCH and got her admission
there, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Two separate cases were filed in this connection, confirming the matter DU
Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said the university authorities filed a complaint
with Shahbagh Police Station while the girl’s father filed another one with
Cantonment Police Station.
