AL wants free, fair city polls: Quader

SAVAR, Jan 6, 2020 (BSS) – Urging BNP not to spread confusion over the
use of Electronic Voting Machine ((EVM) in the election, Awami League (AL)
General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said his party wants free, fair and
neutral polls of two Dhaka city corporations.

“We want a free, fair and neutral election. We will extend all-out
cooperation to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the upcoming city
polls. But the BNP is confusing the people with delivering claptrap
statements over the use of EVM, sensing the absolute defeat in the election
slated for January 30,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with the
remarks while distributing warm clothes and baby food among the destitute
people on behalf of AL on Savar upazila Parishad premises here with Savar
upazila unit AL President Hasina Doula in the chair.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman,
AL Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Ray Nandi, Dhaka
district unit AL General Secretary and Dhaka District Council Administrator
Mahbubur Rahman and Savar upazila Parishad Chairman Manjurul Alam Rajib,
among others, addressed the function.

Noting that the government is working to improve the fate of the people,
Quader sought votes for the AL nominated candidates taking part in the two
Dhaka city corporations’ polls with the election symbol ‘Boat’.

“If you cast your votes for ‘Boat’ (AL’s election symbol), the country
will witness more development. No poor people will suffer from hurdles,” he
said.

About the warm clothes distribution, the AL general secretary said his
party is distributing the warm cloths across the country so that no people
suffer and die from cold.

Besides, the government has already distributed 40 lakh blankets, Taka 2
crore in cash, worm-clothes for children and dry food among the destitute
people across the country, he said, adding it will continue to protect the
elderly people and children from the cold.

At the function, Quader distributed 10,000 blankets, food and warm
clothes among children.
