JS body for separate department to tackle disasters
DHAKA, Jan 5, 2020 (BSS) – A parliamentary watchdog at a meeting today
recommended forming a separate department to respond any disaster as well as
its aftermath and to drive emergency rescue drives.
In a meeting, the committee urged the ministry to take steps to form a
separate department for promptly tackling disaster and conducting rescue
operations, including relief distribution, said a press release.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Disaster Management and Relief
affairs Ministry came up with the recommendation from its 8th meeting held at
the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman A B Tajul Islam in the chair.
The meeting also reviewed the project to collect modern equipment for
facing the challenges of disaster like earthquake. In this connection lists
of modern equipment were present at the meeting, added the release.
Committee members: State Minister of the ministry Dr M Enamur Rahman,
Mir Mostak Ahmed Rabi, Jewel Areng, Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury and Kaniz
Sultana attended the meeting.
