Eminent personalities pay tribute to Syed Muazzem Ali

NEW DELHI, Jan 3, 2020 (BSS) – Eminent personalities including war veterans, diplomats, academics, journalists and civil society members today paid glowing tribute to the memory of Syed Muazzem Ali, the former High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India.
Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi organized a condolence meeting at its Moitree Hall where they had joined to pay last respect to Ali, the former foreign secretary, who died of severe heart attack following pneumonia on December 30 in Dhaka.
They placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Syed Muazzem Ali, who left New Delhi on December 19 after successfully completion of his five-year tenure as Bangladesh High Commissioner to India.
Later, expressing their condolences at the demise of Ali, they termed him (Ali) as a seasoned diplomat, good human being and a true friend of India, saying he played a very crucial role for further strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.
They also mentioned their personal relationship with Syed Muazzem Ali, who has the ability to mix with all section of people and also has the passion of art, culture and literature apart from diplomatic affairs.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Deputy High Commissioner Rokibul Haque made his introductory remarks and paid respect to the memory of Syed Muazzem Ali on behalf of the officers and employees of the mission.
Apart from this, more than 80 ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries based in New Delhi expressed their deep condolences at the demise of Syed Muazzem Ali, a freedom fighter turned diplomat.
They signed a ‘book of condolence’ kept in front of the high commissioner’s office at Bangladesh Mission till 5 pm yesterday from December 31.
The envoys visited Bangladesh mission till the last three days to express their shock and grief on behalf of the people of their respective countries and governments at the death of Bangladesh envoy in New Delhi by signing the book.
Besides, Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale also visited Bangladesh high commission and signed the ‘Condolence Book’ to express condolence at the death of Syed Muazzem Ali.
“We, the ministry of external affairs deeply grieved at the demise of high commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali. He was a friend of India, a wonderful diplomat to work with and a fine human being,” he wrote the book.
