Nation set to celebrate textbook festival tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 31, 2019 (BSS) – Primary and secondary students are awaiting
new textbooks in the first morning of the New Year 2020 as the ‘National
Textbook Festival’ is set to be celebrated across the country tomorrow.

As many as 35, 31, 44,554 free textbooks will be distributed among 4,
26, 19,865 primary and secondary levels students tomorrow through textbook
festivals across the country for the academic year 2020.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the free textbook
distribution programme by handing over books of primary and secondary levels
to students at a function at her official Ganabhaban residence here today.

Earlier, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over a set of textbooks
for the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) to the premier while State
Minister for Primary and Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen handed
over another set of textbooks of Primary Education Completion (PEC) and
Ebtedayee.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, newly appointed
PM’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, the outgoing Secretary of
Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohorab Hossain, PMO Senior
Secretary Sajjadul Hassan, Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, Primary and Mass
Education Secretary Md Akram-Al-Hossain and Secretary of Secondary and Higher
Education Division Md Mahbub Hossain were present on the occasion, among
others.

The textbooks festival of secondary level will be held at Adhar Chandra
Government High School in Savar while another programme will also take place
at the central playground on Dhaka University premises in the city marking
the occasion.

A total of 105,402,375 textbooks will be distributed among the pre-
primary and primary level students while 247,742,179 textbooks will be
distributed among the secondary level students at free of cost.

The government has printed these textbooks by maintaining proper
standard for pre-primary, primary, secondary, ebtedayee and SSC level
students and all students will get textbooks for free on the first day of the
New Year, education ministry sources said.

Distribution of free textbook started since 2010 at both primary and
secondary levels in the country.
