Masud Bin Momen made foreign secretary

DHAKA, Dec 31, 2019 (BSS) – The government has decided to appoint Masud Bin
Momen as the next Foreign Secretary, a foreign ministry press release said
here today.

The foreign affairs ministry issued a notification saying that acting
Foreign Secretary Masud Momen will discharge his duties as Foreign Secretary
until further notice.

Masud succeeded Md Shahidul Haque who retired yesterday as the country’s
longest-serving Foreign Secretary.

The new foreign secretary returned to headquarters two months back after
serving as Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in
New York, The new foreign secretary also served as Ambassador of Bangladesh
to Italy and Japan

Masud is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 1985 batch of
Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). During his distinguished diplomatic career,
Masud served in stations like New York, Islamabad, New Delhi and Kathmandu in
various capacities. Masud obtained his MA in International Relations from
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, USA.

He also obtained his Honors and Masters degree in Economics with
distinction from the University of Dhaka.

He is married and blessed with two children.
