Atiqul resigns from DNCC mayor post
DHAKA, Dec 30, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor
Atiqul Islam has resigned from the mayoral post to contest in the upcoming
city corporation elections slated for January 30, 2020.
“The LGRD ministry has already accepted his resignation letter as we sent
it to the ministry through DNCC secretary,” DNCC senior information office
ASM Mamun told BSS.
Atiqul Islam, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and
Exporters Association (BGMEA), has got the ruling Awami League’s ticket to
contest the DNCC’s mayoral elections slated for January 30.
According to the EC, all mayoral and councilor aspirants of Dhaka south
and north city corporations will have to submit their nomination papers to
the commission by December 31.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on January 2, while the
aspirants will have until January 9 to withdraw their candidature.
