Stocks extend winning streak

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE) closed today sustaining the gaining streak for third consecutive
session amid choppy trading.

The market started with buoyancy, but the risk-averse investors prompted
to liquidate their holdings in middle of the session, especially from fuel
and power, engineering and jute sectors which pushed down the prime index.

However, the final hour buying pressure from the bargain hunters on bank,
pharma, textile and IT sectors’ stocks helped the index to close 18.9 points
higher over last session.

The investors’ participation has slightly increased over the last session.
The pharma sector dominated the turnover board and grabbed 16.2% of the day’s
total turnover.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4452.93 points on Monday with a gain of
18.98 points or 0.42 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah
index, DSES also went up by 1.01 points and 2.74 points to settle at 1513.34
points and 999.82 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 100,015 trades were executed in
today’s trading session with a trading volume of 110.37 million securities.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 355 issues traded, 154
securities gained price while 142 declined and 59 remained unchanged.

Most of the sectors witnessed better performance today. Among the major
sectors based on market capitalization – bank (0.9%), pharma (0.6%), textile
(0.3%) and IT (2.4%) sectors achieved price appreciation while jute (-2.0%),
fuel & power (-0.6%) and engineering (-0.3%) sectors witnessed correction,
according to a market operator International Leasing Securities.

It added the investors’ activity was mostly centered on pharma (16.2%),
engineering (13.9%) and bank (13.0%) sectors.

The top 10 gainers were – Khulna Power, Pragati Insurance, Global Heavy,
Envoy Textile, Yeakin Polymar, ML Dying, Matin Spinning, Aamra Technology,
Daffodil Computer and Far Chemical.

Khulna Power topped the turnover chart followed by Brac Bank, National Life
Insurance, Beacon Pharma, Square Pharma, Standard Ceramic, Daffodil Computer,
Shuwrid Industries, Singer BD and Sinobangla Industries.

The top 10 losers were – Al-haj Tex, Golden Harvest, Zaheen Spinning, RN
Spinning, Anlima Yarn, Saiham Tex, Tung Hai Industries, HR Tex, Western
Marine and Fareast Knitting.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
also closed in green maintaining the gaining streak of previous session.

CSCX and CASPI increased by 11.19 points and 19.28 points to stand at
8187.91 points and 13505.70 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 6,658,232 shares and mutual fund of 230 companies were
traded, of which 84 issues advanced while 107 declined and 39 issues remained
unchanged.
