6 killed in north India’s road mishap due to dense fog

NEW DELHI, Dec 30, 2019 (BSS/Xinhua) -At least six people, including two minors, died and five others injured when the vehicle fell into a canal in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh late on Sunday night, said media reports.

The road mishap reportedly occurred due to the dense fog in the state’s Greater Noida district when the vehicle skidded off the road due to poor visibility and plunged into a canal.

“Altogether 11 people were onboard the Maruti Ertiga car, which fell into Kherli canal in Dankaur area. All 11 were taken to a hospital where doctors declared six of them dead, while the remaining five are undergoing treatment,” media reports quoted a state police spokesperson as saying.

Dense fog is witnessed in many parts of north India, leading to poor visibility which results in delay in a large number of flights and trains.

Mercury has fallen to as low as below 2 Degrees Celsius in Delhi and neighbouring areas during the past one week, even as it’s described as the coolest December in over a century.
