Bourses start week continuing upbeat

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) began week extending upbeat of previous session as enthusiastic investors continued their buying spree.

The morning positive vibe continued till the closure as optimistic investors remained active in the session. Positive momentum in some large cap stocks especially from bank, financial institutions, pharma and food sectors created sound in the investors’ temper.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4433.94 points on Sunday, the first day of the week, with a gain of 15.10 points or 0.34 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES also went up by 3.37 points and 2.18 points to settle at 1512.33 points and 997.08 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 94,387 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 112.67 million securities.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 353 issues traded, 163 securities gained price while 125 declined and 65 remained unchanged.

The miscellaneous sector dominated the turnover board and grabbed 14.9% of the day’s turnover where SK Trims topped the chart with 9.1% contribution, according to a market operator, International Leasing Securities.

It said most of the sectors witnessed correction today. Among the major sectors based on market capitalization – telecom (-0.2%), fuel & power (-0.7%), jute (-4.3%) and life insurance (-1.8%) sectors witnessed price correction while bank (0.7%), financial institutions (0.3%), pharma (0.1%) and food (1.4%) sectors achieved price appreciation in the day’s session.

The investors’ activity was mostly centered on miscellaneous (14.9%), textile (13.4%) and engineering (12.0%) sectors.

The top 10 gainers were Yeakin Polymar, Oimex Electrode, Western Marine Shipyard, Miracle Industries, Prime Textile, Alif Industries, ACI Formulations, National Feed Mill, Bengal Windsor and BSCCL.

National Life Insurance topped the turnover chart followed by Standard Ceramic, Daffodil Computer, Prime Bank, Khulna Power, Ring Shine, Sinobangla Industries, Bank Asia, SK Trims and Anlima Yarn.

The top 10 losers were Al-haj Tex, Tallu Spinning, Zeal Bangla Sugar Mill, Shyampur Sugar, Samata Leather, Northern Jute, Dutch Bangla 1st Mutual Fund, Emerald Oil, Pragati Insurance and Ring Shine.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in green maintaining the gaining streak of previous session.

CSCX and CASPI increased by 12.97 points and 22.02 points to stand at 8176.71 points and 13486.41 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 6,849,268 shares and mutual fund of 232 companies were traded, of which 108 issues advanced while 85 declined and 39 issues remained unchanged.
