Experts for producing pesticide-free vegetables

RANGPUR, Dec 29, 2019 (BSS) – Agriculture experts at a seminar have said the present government is implementing various programs for enhancing production of pesticide-free vegetables adopting eco-friendly agricultural technologies.

They said this at a seminar titled ‘Production of pesticide-free vegetables’ organised by Rangpur Sub-station of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) at its hall room in the city on Saturday.

Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF) extended support in arranging the event participated by Sub-assistant Agriculture Officers (SAAOs) of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and farmers of Rangpur region.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rouf attended the seminar as chief guest with Director General of BINA Dr. Biresh Kumar Goswami in the chair. Director of the BCCTF Nasir-Ud-Duala, Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur agriculture region Muhammad Ali, Project Director of BINA Wing of the BCCTF Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam were present as special guests.

Senior Scientific Officer of Rangpur Sub-station of BINA Mohammad Ali delivered a welcome speech narrating importance of increasing production and consumption of pesticide-free vegetables.

Principal Scientific Officers of Mymensingh Station of BINA Dr. Mohammad Tazmul Haque and Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman delivered presentations on Production of poison-free vegetables.

SAAOs Mohammad Rafikur Rahman and Mahmudul Hassan discussed their field level experiences in inspiring farmers and successes achieved in cultivating chemical pesticide free vegetables.

The said farmers are also producing pesticide-free quality seed, organic and green manures, vermin-composts and organic pesticides, preserving and using those in producing vegetables without using chemical pesticides.

The speakers stressed on popularising ecological agriculture with application of biofertilizers, crop residues, green manure, bone meal and compost to reduce negative impacts of conventional agriculture on public health and environment.

The chief guest said the present government is implementing various programs for producing high quality agricultural products free from poisonous chemicals.

“Agro-friendly various programs have been taken to produce different varieties of vegetables adopting eco-friendly technologies in synchronization with climate change,” he added.

He called upon farmers and common people to produce pesticide-free vegetables free from chemical fertilisers and pesticides and consume those vegetables to lead a healthier life.
