‘Mithapukur to become first drug free upazila in Rangpur’

RANGPUR, Dec 29, 2019 (BSS) – Superintendent of Police (SP) Biplob Kumar Sarkar has said comprehensive steps have been taken for declaring Mithapukur upazila as the first drug free upazila of the district in the near future.

“Drug is a social disease. The present government has taken drastic measures to save our society from this chronic disease for protecting youths from drugs. We must develop strong social resistance against drug,” Sarkar said.

The SP said this while addressing the anti-drug discussion, distribution of warm clothes program and concert held at Balarhat High School ground in Balarhat union of Mithapukur upazila here on Saturday as the chief guest.

Retired Headmaster of the school Moslem Uddin Mondal presided over the events organised by local charitable organisation ‘Our Balarhat, Our Proud’ with the assistance of Mithipur police station.

The SP said winter causes sufferings to the poor and helpless people in the society.

“We should not remain silent with only hope for government allocation of warm clothes. Affluent people of the society should also come forward to stand beside cold-stricken people,” he said.

“Apart from public-private initiatives, good works can be done with concerted efforts of all in the society for taking the country and society forward to further accelerate our national development will accelerate,” the SP said.

Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mamun Bhuiyan and Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur police station Jafar Ali Biswas addressed the occasions as special guests.

Earlier, a huge anti-drug rally was brought out on the streets of Balarhat union. Later, the chief guest distributed blankets among the poor and distressed cold-affected people of the area.
