Carmichael College set to celebrate centennial anniversary

RANGPUR, Dec 27, 2019 (BSS) – The administration of Carmichael College, Rangpur has made preparations to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the educational institution on its campus on December 29 and 30 next.

Principal of the college Professor Dr. Sheikh Anwar Hossain informed journalists about preparations for the centenary celebration festival at a press conference held at the college here on Thursday evening.

He said Education Minister Dipu Moni is expected to attend the centenary celebration programs as the chief guest.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad and Secretary General of Jatiya Party Mashiur Rahman Ranga and Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman will attend as special guests.

Local Members of Parliament, officials of the divisional and district administrations, leaders of Awami League and other political parties will be present.

“The two-day colourful celebration events like Ananda procession, distribution of crests, discussions, reminiscences and cultural functions will continue from 9 am to the night,” the Principal said.

On the inaugural day, the cultural functions will begin from 3 pm featuring songs and group dances by the country’s renowned Betar and television artists. Artists of the “Joler Gan’ band party will perform from 6 pm.

The closing day celebration will begin with the extended cultural programmes. In addition to cultural organizations of the college, leading Betar and television star artists and artists of LRB, the band party of the late music artist Ayub Bachchu, will render colourful performances.

Member-secretary of the centennial anniversary celebration committee Md. Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury said thousands of former and incumbent teachers and students of the institution are waiting for the events.

“We have completed all preparations to gift a memorable celebration. Booths will be available so that former and current registered teachers and students could easily collect T-shirts, bags and directories,” Chowdhury added.

Convener of the centennial anniversary celebration committee Professor Bimal Chandra Roy said all preparations have been completed to organize the two-day colourful events.

“In addition to the publicity campaign, construction of a stage is underway on the college ground and cultural organizations are practicing regularly,” Roy said, hoping that every event will be festive in a peaceful environment.

It should be noted that Carmichael College started its journey on November 10 in 1916 when the then Governor of undivided Bengal Lord Thomas David Baron Carmichael laid foundation stone of the institution.

The institution was named after Lord Thomas David Baron Carmichael as Carmichael College which completed its hundredth year on November 10 in 2016.

Thousands of the former and current students and teachers of the college have registered themselves to participate in the centennial celebrations.
