Controversial persons won’t get nomination: Quader

NARAYANGANJ, Dec 26, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader today said no controversial persons will get mayoral and councilor nomination for the January 30 city polls.

“The candidates who have a chance to become winner in the two city corporation polls will get nomination for the Mayoral post… no controversial candidates will get nomination,” he said while inaugurating the construction work of six-lane expressway on Bhogra-Jaydebpur-Madanpur highway at Rupganj here.

The Prime Minister along with different agencies and her own team has assessed the popularity of the possible candidates for the city polls, he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said, “The government will provide all sorts of cooperation to the Election Commission (EC) for holding the two Dhaka city corporations polls in a free and fair manner.”

He assured that the government as well as the ruling party will not interfere in the city corporation polls.

Replying to a query, he said a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement had already been signed with a Chinese private sector company for construction of the expressway last year.

A total of Taka 4,000 crore will be spent for construction of the expressway within the next three years.

The programme was attended by Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastigir Gazi, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Division (RHD) Jawad Alam, Expressway project director Sabujuddin Khan, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming and RHD officials.
