Court again defers charge hearing of defamation case against Mainul
DHAKA, Dec 26, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court has deferred the charge hearing
of the defamation case framed against Barrister Mainul Hosein by journalist
Masuda Bhatti till April 12, 2020.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam fixed the date
following a prayer lodged by lawyer Mahiuddin Chowdhury as Barrister Mainul
did not appear before the court today.
On October 21, 2018, Masuda Bhatti, acting editor of “Dainik Amader Notun
Somoy”, filed the case against Mainul for hurling abusive words at her during
a television talk show.
On the same day, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad
Asaduzzaman Noor took the charge into cognizance and issued an arrest warrant
for Barrister Mainul.
Mainul hurled abusive words at Masuda Bhatti and termed her as
characterless at the talk show titled ‘Ekattor Journal” hosted by Mithila
Farzana on Ekattor TV on October 16, 2018.
