Local builders to get works in govt projects: Rezaul

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2019 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said the government has a plan to give works to local housing companies side by side with foreign investors in government projects of building constructions.

“If native housing institutions are given works, they will have liability and accountability,” he told the inaugural ceremony of a five-day housing fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here.

Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) is organizing the winter edition of the event.

REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Alamin chaired the function while REHAB Vice-Presidents Engineer Md Sohel Rana and Liakat Ali Ali Bhuiyan addressed the function, among others.

The minister said they will create scope for Bangladeshi businessmen to invest in building satellite towns on the bank of Turag and Keraniganj, Jheelmeel extension, Purbachal and Uttara third phase flat construction.

Rezaul said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave directives to ease all services. He said earlier there were 16 tiers to get design approval for design.

After holding meeting with REHAB, Architecture Department and urban experts, the 16-tier process has been reduced to only four while automation process has been introduced to reduce harassment in the four tiers as well, he added.

The minister said they made provision to give land certificate, power of attorney and mutation within specified time.

The five-day housing fair will continue till December 28.

A total 230 stalls of 160 institutions were set up in the fair. Apart from 116 real estate institutions, the participants will include 20 building material manufacturers and 14 financial institutions.

The fair will remain open from 10am to 9pm for visitors. The entry fee is Taka 50 for single time and Taka 100 for maximum five times.
