Govt formulates policy to curb pollution around Dhaka

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2019 (BSS) -The government is formulating a policy to
prevent and reduce air pollution in the surrounding areas of Dhaka city.

In this regard, the second meeting of a high-level committee was held at
the conference room of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change, an
official release said today.

Environment Secretary Abdullah Al- Mohsin Chowdhury presided over the
meeting.

The meeting discussed in detail about the short, medium and long term
measures to reduce air pollution around Dhaka city. The meeting also
discussed to include the matters for covering construction materials with
temporary sheds while the roads, building construction, re-construction,
utility services and repair activities in the policy.

Besides, decision on sprinkling water twice a day during the repair and
construction of damaged roads was taken in principle.

The meeting also decided to take legal action against polluters for
polluting the environment.

Chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Shah Mohammad
Imdadul Haque, Director General of the Department of Environment (DoE), Dr
AKM Rafique Ahammed and representatives of different departments and
agencies, among others, were present at the meeting.
