President seeks Turkish support for Rohingya repatriation

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2019 – (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today sought Turkey’s continued support for the repatriation of the Rohingyas to their Rakhine homeland in Myanmar.

He sought the support when the outgoing Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Devrim Ozturk, paid a farewell call on him at the Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

The President highly appreciated the role and supports of the Republic of Turkey on the Rohingya issue, President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Turkey played an effective role by providing supports on the Rohingya issue and also raised its voice at different international forums for their safe and dignified repatriation, the head of the state said during the meeting.

Thanking the envoy for successful completion of his tenure in Bangladesh, the President said Bangladesh always gives priority to maintaining good bilateral relations with all.

President Hamid said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Turkey are excellent and the relations have been expanding gradually.

He lauded the role of the ambassador in bolstering the existing commerce and investment, hoping that the ties between the two countries would be stronger in the days to come.

Expressing his gratitude to the President and the Bangladesh government for their cooperation, the ambassador said Turkey is always keen to enhance bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

The outgoing ambassador lauded the ongoing socio-economic development in Bangladesh, specially the tremendous development in women empowerment and education. Devrim Ozturk expressed the hope that the relations between the two countries would strengthen in the coming days.

Secretaries concerned to the President’s office and high officials of foreign ministry were present on the occasion.
