Plunkett impressed by young fast bowler Mehedi Rana
DHAKA, Dec 24, 2019 (BSS) – Chattogram Challengers English fast bowler
Liam Plunkett heaped shower of praise on young left-arm pacer Mehedi Hasan
Rana, terming him as the gem, considering his ability to bowl with the both
new and old ball.
The Bangladeshi young pacer hogged the limelight in the ongoing
Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL), taking 13 wickets from five
games for Chattogram Challengers. But more than his wicket-tally it was his
skill to give the breakthrough in crucial moment and economical bowling in
high-scoring matches drew the attention most.
Rana didn’t get anyone to purchase him during the players’ draft but at
the insistence of the senior cricketers, Chattogram Challengers included him
in the team. It seemed it paid off perfectly as the left-arm pace bowler
seemed to be having a great run in the tournament.
“I think Rana had two man of the match in a row. So it looks really good
bowler,” Plunkett said here today.
“I am not saying too much of him. I have seen him in the first game when
he bowled nicely and managed to pick three wickets. He showed the skill with
new ball and old ball also. He got good yorkers and so I am very impressed,”
he added.
Plunkett also said that losing the last game can be a blessing in
disguise as it made them more motivated to do well.
Though Chattogram is still at the top of the point table, their loss
against Rangpur Rangers is seen as big blow.
“You want to finish top. When you qualify you always want to finish top
of the table. You want to win the league. So I would say we have won some
games,” Plunkett said.
“We lost the last game which gives us the kick of the back side and
makes us working hard and training. And makes us want to win the next game
even more,” he said.
Plunkett said that he is happy with the way everyone contributed.
“I think the way they play, the way they scored the runs on top.
Everyone contributed. It is nice to have a guy (Rana) who swings the ball
early on with new ball. I have seen spinners bowl well too. Each of them
trying to do something different and help the side win the games,” he
concluded.
