RANGPUR, Dec 24, 2019 (BSS) – Construction of the 100-bed Rangpur Shishu
Hospital (RSH) has been completed spending about Taka 31.49 crore on around
two acres of land at the heart of Rangpur city.

The Health Engineering Department (HED) has implemented construction of
the three-story RSH building in the first phase of the six-story government
hospital building paving the way to provide modern health services to
children of Rangpur division.

“We have completed construction of the three-story RSH building two and
a half months ahead of scheduled time to hand it over to the Civil Surgeon of
Rangpur next month,” said Executive Engineer of Rangpur HED Engineer Md.
Atikur Rahman.

Talking to BSS, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy said the Directorate
General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will
be informed to take next steps after receiving the newly built 100-bed RSH
building from the HED.

“The 100-bed RSH, the first of its kind in the country’s northern
region, will have all modern treatment facilities, equipment and specialist
physicians for providing proper health services to babies, infants and
children,” he said.

When asked about the facilities available at the 100-bed RSH, Dr. Roy
said there will be an emergency section, outdoor section, doctors’ chambers
and laboratories on the first floor of the main hospital building.

“The second floor will have operation theaters and borne unit and there
will be wards and cabins on the third floor of the hospital building,” he
said, adding that instants, babies and children will get the world standard
treatments and health services in the hospital.

Pediatric and Neuro Medicine Specialist Professor Dr. MA Wahed said it
is not becoming possible to provide specialised health services to expectant
children at the only pediatric department in Rangpur Medical College Hospital
(RMCH).

Professor Wahed, also Founder of Rangpur Mother and Child Hospital, said
the launching of the 100-bed RSH with all modern treatment facilities will
pave the opportunity to provide health services and conduct critical
surgeries of children at very lower costs.

“When activities of the full-fledged RSH will be started, the tendency
to move to Dhaka or neighbouring countries for treatment of children would be
greatly reduced and parents will be relieved from bearing abnormal treatment
costs and sufferings,” he added.

Talking to BSS, Assistant Engineer of Rangpur HED Engineer Ershadul
Haque said construction of the 100-bed RSH and other multi-storey buildings
inside the former Sadar Hospital premises has also beautified the area that
was filthy for decades together.

Noted physician Dr. Mofizul Islam Maantu thanked the present government
led by Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina for constructing the 100-bed RSH to
enable children of Rangpur division in getting modern health services and
facilities at their doorsteps.
