Born in a middle class business family of South Damudya village under

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in those crucial days when the Bengali
nationalist movement witnessed its peak ahead of the Liberation War.

steered the Awami Volunteer Core from 1969-1972.

He was elected as a member of the then Provincial Assembly in 1970.

Razzaq was the sector commander of Meghalaya, one of four sector
commanders of Mujib Bahini, during the Liberation War and simultaneously he
was also an organiser and trainer of Mujib Bahini.

After the independence, he was elected member of the parliament in 1973,
1991, 1996, 2001 and 2008. He was the organising secretary of Bangladesh
Awami League during 1972-1975 and general secretary of Awami League from 1978
to 1981.

Razzaq also served as a presidium member of Awami League from 1991 to
2008.

He became the water resources minister during the 1996-2001 tenure of the
Awami League government when Dhaka signed the landmark Ganges Water Sharing
Treaty with India.

On December 23 in 2011, Abdur Razzak passed away at a London hospital.
