Hasan vows to uphold faith, confidence of AL President

DHAKA, Dec 23, 2019 (BSS)- Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving him the charge of Joint General Secretary of Awami League, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said he would keep up the faith and confidence the Awami League President has reposed on him.

“This is my promise that I would uphold the faith and confidence of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the cost of last drop of my blood,” he told a view exchange meeting with journalists at his office at Secretariat here.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present at the meeting.

Hasan said, “Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has elected me as Joint General Secretary of the party. I will try to perform the duty vested by the premier with honesty and utmost sincerity.”

He said, “Earlier, she (AL President) gave me the charge of Environment Secretary of the party. I performed the responsibility sincerity for 10 years. Later, she gave me the charge of Publicity and Publication Secretary. And I tried to discharge my duty with honesty and sincerity for the last seven years.”

Replying to a query, the newly-elected AL Joint General Secretary said the national council of Awami League is a milestone in the country’s perspective. The district and upazila levels councils were also held across the country centering the national council, he added.

He said the Awami League has formed the government for the three consecutive terms in the last 11 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “For this, many intruders have joined the party. There is no room for the opportunists, intruders and those who would work against the party in the new committees at all levels,” Hasan added.

Terming the politics as a vow, the minister said the politics was being criminalized after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.

“Ziaur Rahman opened a market of selling and buying of political leaders. Later, Ershad and Zia’s wife Begum Khaleda Zia also established the criminalization and merchandizing of politics,” he added.

Hasan said Awami League has an aim to build a developed nation along with developed state, and the government is working to this end.
