West Indies comeback after maiden T20 century, hopes Fletcher

DHAKA, Dec 21, 2019 (BSS)-Andre Fletcher who struck his maiden T20 century to help Sylhet Thunder end their losing-streak in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL), said the knock would motivate him to make a comeback in the West Indies team.

Opening the innings, Fletcher remained unbeaten on 103 from 57 balls as Sylhet Thunder crushed high-flying Khulna Tigers by 80 runs today at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

“For sure I would love to score as much hundreds as I can. Unfortunately I did not,” he said after the match.

“I am grateful for it now and I will hope that I could get as much more as possible. Unfortunately I am not playing for the West Indies currently but hopefully continue to score as much runs as possible and then get back to the team,” he added.

Fletcher informed that he is eyeing to make more valuable contribution in the coming days in BBPL and he is happy with the way Johnson Charles attacked the bowlers as it set the tone for them against Khulna Tigers.

Fletcher’s 103 off 57 balls was studded by five sixes and 10 fours but his compatriot Johnson Charles stole the spotlight with his blazing stroke play making 38-ball 90 runs that comprised with 11 fours and five sixes.

“It is my first hundred [in T20] and I am happy. It was a case where I never had to take any great chances as of the way Johnson was batting. We batted well in pairs and it is actually good to see that we can do our best and execute the plans of the team and as a batting unit. As overseas we can contribute that the team can win,” he said.

“Well we know what we had to do as a batting unit. And the coach was asking for someone to bat as deep as possible and may be getting a big 50 I said to the captain before the game that Johnson and I would try our best. If we can bat at least 10 overs each then we can post a big total,” he added.

“And its good that I could carry on and bat right through. And the way he played, hopefully we can bat the same and win another game,” he said.

Fletcher added that his team mates cannot get complacent rather they need to make plans so that they can reach the play off by keeping the winning momentum in the coming days.

“We need to win form here and hopefully we can get to the play-offs. Well for sure any team would like to score 200 plus every day. It was a good change but as I said we don’t want to be complacent,” he added.

“I wouldn’t say there is not much batsman. We got batsmen but may be the poor hitting in the backend we are unlucky a bit. Once I and Charles give the start the team needs it will become easier for the other batsmen,” Fletcher concluded.
