Mobile court fines 15 drivers for honking

DHAKA, Dec 19, 12019 (BSS) – On the first day of monitoring, a mobile court today fined 15 drivers for violating the rule of “horn-free-zone” in the secretarial area as part of its awareness campaign about it.

Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamjid Ahmed and Assistant Director of Environment Department Saiful Ashraf conducted the mobile court and fined Taka 4,500 for them.

On December 17, as a part of making the capital free from sound-pollution, surrounding areas of the Secretariat was brought under ‘No Horn Zone’ saying vehicles will have to suffer punishment for flouting the ban on honking in these areas.

According to Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act 1995, if anyone violates this ban, the offender will be sentenced to maximum one month imprisonment or fined maximum of Taka 5,000 or awarded both fine and jail term for the first time violators.

For repeat offense, the punishment is maximum six months imprisonment or fined maximum Taka 10,000 or awarded both fine and jail term .
