ECNEC okays revised Ashrayan-3, 8 other projects

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved nine development projects involving Taka 3,226.75 crore.

The approved projects include the 1st revised Ashrayan-3 project for giving temporary shelter to the Rohingyas who were forcibly displaced from Myanmar. The approval came from the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said the ECNEC has approved a total of nine development projects with an outlay of Taka 3,226.75 crore and the whole amount will come from the government treasury.

The planning minister said the government will construct a jetty, house for the officials of the United Nations, culverts and other new structures under the revised Ashrayan-3 project.

After approval of the project was revised, the cost has increased by Taka 782.80 crore and the total cost of the Ashrayan-3 project has increased to Taka 3,094.95 crore which was Taka 2,312.15 crore earlier, he added.

Mannan said the main objective of the Asrayan-3 project is to construct infrastructures for rehabilitating one lakh Myanmar citizens, the Rohingyas, who were forcedly displaced from their country, at Bhashanchar of Char Ishwar union in Noakhali’s Hatia.

The other projects approved in the meeting are ‘Establishing Premix Kernel Machine and Laboratory and building infrastructures to ensure nutritional quality of food grains’ with Taka 66.78 crore, ‘Establishment of Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Center (2nd revised)’ with Taka 228.45 crore, ‘Extension and Modernization of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP)’ with Taka 240.27 crore, ‘Construction of the Bhairab Bridge on the Bhairab River from Dighaliya (Railgate) -Arua-Gazirhat-Terakhada Road’ with Taka 617.53 crore, ‘Sirajganj-Kazipur-Dhunat-Sherpur and Sirajganj (Bagbati) – Dhunat (Sonamukhi) highway upgrading to proper quality and breadth’ with Taka 988.65 crore, ‘Construction and Modernization of ancillary installations of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Sangsad Saddasha (MP) Bhaban and MP Hostel’ with Taka 233.92 crore, ‘Rehabilitation and Quality Improvement of the Eastern Railway Level Crossing Gates (2nd Revised)’ with Taka 23.91 crore and Rehabilitation and Development of Level Crossing Gates in the Western Zone of the Bangladesh Railway with Taka 44.44 crore.
