Jeremy Bruer made new Australian HC to Bangladesh

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2019 (BSS) – Jeremy Bruer, a senior career diplomat has been
appointed as Australia’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh who will arrive
here in mid-January.

Bruer, a senior officer with the Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade is currently serving as the Assistant Secretary, Southeast Asia
Maritime Branch, a press release issued by the Australian High Commission
here said today.

“I announce the appointment of Mr Jeremy Bruer as Australia’s next High
Commissioner to Bangladesh,” said the release quoting Australian foreign
minister Senator Marise Payne.

Payne, who is also minister for women, said, Australia is working closely
with Bangladesh on Indian Ocean regional issues, including providing
humanitarian support to address the Rohingya crisis, and strengthening
further the education, trade and investment linkages.

“Australia and Bangladesh enjoy a warm and constructive relationship,
founded on our strong community links, shared Commonwealth values and
sporting ties,” she added.

The Australian foreign minister also thanked outgoing High Commissioner
Julia Niblett for her contributions to advancing Australia-Bangladesh since
2016.

Bruer previously served overseas as Ambassador to the United Arab
Emirates, High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Deputy Head of Mission in Riyadh and
Second Secretary in Port Moresby.

Australia was one of the first nations to recognise Bangladesh’s
independence and since that time, the two nations have established a strong
and growing economic relationship with two-way trade that currently valued at
2.4 billion dollars annually.
