President to attend ‘Supreme Court Day’ programme tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid will attend a discussion at the Supreme Court Judges’ Complex tomorrow, on the occasion of the ‘Supreme Court Day’.

The President is scheduled to attend the programme as the chief guest at 3:30 pm on the day, President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told BSS this afternoon.

The head of the state will deliver a speech in the programme, he added.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain will preside over the function while Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haq, MP, will be present as the special guest.

Bangladesh Supreme Court is going to observe the day tomorrow for the third time as the apex court started its operation on this day in 1972.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took initiatives to formulate a constitution right after the independence.

The Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was adopted on November 4, 1972 and it became effective on December 16. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inaugurated Bangladesh Supreme Court on December 18, 1972.
