Japan provides 153 vehicles to 3 City Corporations

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2019 (BSS) – Japan has provided 150 vehicles to three city corporations in Dhaka and Chattogram for removing urban wastes as the assistance will help to increase urban waste disposal capacity of these city corporations.

“150 waste disposal vehicles were provided to three city corporations in Dhaka and Chattogram under Japanese government grant assistance of Taka 77 crores”, said Local Government, said Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister M Tajul Islam in a meeting at the LGRD ministry here today.

Earlier, Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Naoki Ito handed over the keys of those vehicles to the LGRD Minister at his ministry offices, according to a ministry release.

The LGRD Minister later handed over those keys to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

Of the vehicles, each 56 vehicles were provided to Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations and the rest 38 were to given to Chattogram City Corporation, the release added.

Around 6,000 tonnes wastes, rises from 5100 tonnes in 2014, are being generated every day in the urban areas under two city corporations in the capital.

In CCC, around 2000 tonnes wastes are now being produced in the port city, from its earlier level of 1600 tonnes in 2014.

Chaired by Local Government Division Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, Senior Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yosuhiro Kawazoe, among others, attended the function.
