Local Leg-spinners in BCB’s radar

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2019 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has kept a close eye on local leg-spinners who are playing in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).

The BCB who takes this tournament as the platform to build a solid T20 squad for the ICC World T20 in Australia next year gave special emphasize on finding out wrist spinners, considering that the leggies generally thrives on Australia’s big ground.

The board told all the teams to include a leg-spinner along with a quick bowler with 140 KM pace as priority basis in their team. In line with BCB’s advice, some of the teams included a leg-spinner in their team and BCB is scrutinizing their performance, said the board president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

”All team is playing a leg-spinner expect Cumilla according to the stat I got,” Papon said here on Saturday. “Cumilla has Mujeeb Ur Rahman in their squad who is very good off-spinner.”

”I have seen all the games. I may have missed one or two matches but leg-spinners are playing and even Alok Kapali is playing,” he said.

The objective to play a leg-spinner at regular basis is also to give the Bangladeshi batsmen chance to face a leg-spinner in the match regularly, given the fact that the batsmen traditionally finds them vulnerable against those specific bowlers.

“We have three local leg-spinners playing in this tournament. Alok Kapali is not our regular player but if we cut Kapali than we have Biplob, Rishad and Afridi,” Papon added.

”Among the three, Biplob has bowled well; Afridi and Rishad also are doing well. It is too early to make comments on them but they are in our radar. Hopefully they will play well and give us the options, which we are seeking through this tournament,” the board chief concluded.
