Local players’ performance in BBPL an encouraging sign

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2019 (BSS)- Unlike the other edition of the tournaments, the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) experienced a good performance from the local players, who put a shed on their foreign colleagues to contribute in team’s victory at regular basis.

Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Mithun ignited the first match of the tournament as they contributed in team’s cause.

While Sylhet Thunder batsman Mohammad Mithun 48 ball-84 not out gave the side a strong base, Chattogram Challengers Imrul Kayes made it sure that he would help the side win over Rangpur, shedding Mithun’s performance by match winning 38 ball-61.

Afterwards, Liton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Alok Kapali all their part well to contribute in the side’s victory. There was some concern over Mustafizur Rahman’s bowling but he too started bowling well and seemed to get into his zone as the days pass.

The foreign players meanwhile though continued their strong performance, the local players’ performance was such stronger that they couldn’t be in discussion like the other seasons.

However, the latest addition of local players’ excellent performance was Naim Sheikh, the youngster who just some days ago got his place in T20 squad of the national team.

Naim even played a magnificent 48 ball-84 against India in the third match in Nagpur, which unfortunately went in vain after Indians held the nerve to win the match.

But Naim proved that his T20 credential is not fluke. Against Chattogram Challengers, Naim, playing for Rangpur Rangers struck a brilliant 54 ball-78, the knock which also came in losing cause.
Nonetheless that didn’t take the gloss off the effort he put as he treated some world class bowlers in disdain.

Naim’s performance is specially a pleasing sight for the team management who has taken thing BBPL tournament to find out an ideal T20 squad for the side for the World T20 in Australia next year.

“I think our local players have been in right way,” Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad said here today.

“Imrul Kayes has been batting nicely. The way he was dealing with Mustafizur who looked to be in good touch, is a sight to behold. I also talked to Mustafizur. He is working hard to get back into the groove.” Mahmudullah said the local players performance is exactly what they wanted from them. “Tamim has already got runs, ending his poor form,” he added.

“We have seen Mushfiqur Rahim batting very well and amongst runs. Naim today was brilliant, he has played a superb innings. I think we are in right track.”
