Sylhet vows to back in winning-way after Santokie’s ‘no-ball’ debate

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2019 (BSS)-Leaving the off-field issue and two successive defeat behind them, Sylhet Thunder is looking forward to get back to the winning-way in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) when they take on Dhaka Platoon tomorrow (Saturday).

After being consigned to an eight-wicket defeat to Rajshahi Royals today, which was their second straight defeat in the tournament, Sylhet’s off-spinner Nayeem Hassan said, they are keen to break the jinx in a bid to bring back their confidence.

Dhaka Platoon, who they would take on tomorrow, is also eager to turn the table after conceding a surprising nine-wicket defeat to Rajshahi Royals in the first match.

Sylhet’s problem further increased following the debate of their bowler Krishmar Santokie whose big ‘no-ball’ in the match against Chattogram Challengers created an embarrassing situation as the team director Tanjil Chowdhury termed the no-ball issue a ‘fishy’ act.

Nayeem refused to comment on Santokie’s issue but said: “Actually we need to win a match. When you will be in defeat circle, the negative talk will there to haunt you.”

“If we can win a match, we know, we can make a good turnaround and that’s what we need,” he added.

Nayeem said the player who will play good on his day should carry on it and it is the recipe of the success in T20 cricket.

“Everyday won’t be good for a player. So when a player would get into his zone, he should carry on it, whatever in bowling or batting. We need to be consistent indeed,” he pointed out.

In this tournament, Nayeem is seen to open the bowling and he said he enjoys it.

“I enjoy it because it is challenging for a spinner to bowl in the power-play. There is risk of leaking runs but there is chance of getting wicket at the same time in power-play and I enjoy it actually,” he informed.

Despite being a bowler, Nayeem has a reputation of batting well also lower down the order.

However he said he is yet to talk about his batting with coach Harcehelle Gibbs.

“I am yet to talk with Gibbs about batting and he also doesn’t give any plan.”
