Playing natural game key behind Gurbaz’s whirlwind 50 in BBPL

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2019 (BSS)- Khulna Tigers opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz became
the second fastest half-centurion in BBPL history when he struck 18 ball-50
against Chattogram Challengers to help his team win the game by eight-wicket
on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Gurbaz was dismissed just after reaching the feat but attributed his
success to playing his natural cricket as advised by the captain Mushfiqur
Rahim.

He at one point looked all set to break the record of Ahmed Shehzad, the
Pakistan recruit who is holder of the fastest half-century in BPL history
with 16 ball-50 runs. Playing for Barisal Burners, Shehzad showed his big
hitting prowess against Duronto Rajshahi in 2012.

Gurbaz couldn’t just break the record that now stands for seven years but
he is happy to do his job.

“The wicket was beautiful and our coach and captain told us to play our
natural game,” Gurbaz said after the match.

“I played my natural game as what they advised. The wicket was conducive
to the batsmen. So making runs was easy and when the batsman had a good day
like me and Rossouw, you can do everything,” he said.

After the dismissal of Gurbaz, South African Rilee Rossouw helped the side
canter to the victory in just 13.5 overs, overhauling Chattogram’s 144-6.

“Rossouw was batting very well,” said Gurbaz.

“I was on the wicket and he told me to stay in the wicket but I couldn’t
do it. But I grew with confidence while batting with him.”
