Price will be stable if fair competition ensured: Tipu

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said price in market would be stable if fair and healthy competition is ensured.

He passed this remark while addressing a seminar titled “Ensure of healthy competition in market to protect interest of businessman and consumers” as the chief guest organised by Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) in TCB auditorium, said a press release.

“People would get chance to buy products at reasonable price if we can
ensure neutral and healthy competition in the market, and the BCC has to
perform the duty properly,” opined the minister.

He said the BCC has to work in such a way so that nobody could harm
consumers through any evil motive.

Tipu said one fourth of the total demand of onion has to import every year
that is why problem arises. “If we could have produced onion in line with
demand, such problem never is arisen in the country.”

Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin made keynote
presentation while Bangladesh Competition Commission Chairperson Md Mofizul
Islam chaired the seminar.

General Economic Division Member (Senior Secretary) Dr Shamsul Alam,
Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin, FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim and
BCC Member Md Abdur Rouf also spoke.
