Death toll rises to 10 in Keraniganj factory fire
DHAKA, Dec 12, 2019 (BSS) – The death toll from Keraniganj plastic factory
fire rose to 10 after nine victims died from their injuries at the burn unit
of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
The victims died while undergoing treatment at the hospital early this
morning.
According to DMCH officials, the bodies were kept at the hospital morgue.
The identities of the deceased could not be known.
The fire broke out at a plastic factory at Hijaltola in Dakkhin Keraniganj
on Wednesday afternoon.
“The fire was brought under control around 5.45 pm on Wednesday by 12 units
of fire-fighters,” said Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and
Civil Defence headquarters.
The fire originated from a factory due to explosion of a gas cylinder,
leaving one person dead and at least 25 others injured, he said.
All the injured were sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and
Hospital (DMCH) in the capital.
