Mushfiqur vows to keep up his good form in BBPL

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh’s dependable batsman Mushfiqur Rahim
has vowed to keep up his current rhythm and contribute significantly for
Khulna Tigers in the Bangbandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).

Mushfiqur, the captain of the Khulna Tigers, played a match-winning knock
in the first T20 International against India in Delhi before he became the
only shining spot in Bangladesh’s batting in a pretty disappointing Test
series.

Considered as the most dependable batsman of Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim
struck two half-centuries in the two-match Test against India in last month.
His half-century in day-night Test helped Bangladesh to take the match to the
third day when the Tigers found them in a position of losing it within two
days.

Notably, Mushfiqur is the only Bangladeshi senior batsman who regularly
played the domestic circuit and made runs in abundance.

Mushfiqur’s form would be crucial in Khulna’s aspiration to lift the BBPL
trophy too and the diminutive batsman knew it very well.

“I always try to make runs, wherever I play-be it the domestic cricket or
the International cricket. By the grace of Allah, I have been in good rhythm
now. I will try to use it to best effect in the BBPL,” Mushfiqur said here
today.

Mushfiqur’s side Khulna Tigers will take on Chattogram Challengers in
their opening match of the tournament tomorrow (Thursday) at the Sher-e-
Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Mushfiqur, the captain of the side, hopes to lead them from the front.

“I will try to make a significant contribution. I know that my performance
could play a vital role in winning the match. We also want to do well as
team.”

Every year, Mushfiqur starts the BPL as captain of the side in which he
plays and every year he ends up stepping down from the captain’s role for
some issues. The thing however happened in BPL history. It is to see whether
he could lead the side for the whole season this year. But at the moment, he
praised the team management to form a balanced side.

“Team director and others who were involved with the side formed a very
balanced side,” he said. “May be we don’t have the big names to show but we
got some players who are very handy for the T20 cricket. There are the likes
of Robbie Frylinck, Rilee Rossouw, who played extremely well in the last BPL.

We have the local players like Shafiul, Aminul Islam Biplob, Miraz, Shanto
who could thrive well in this format. We are good team but we know in T20
cricket, who will play well on certain day, they will win the game.”

Mushfiqur Rahim however termed the BPL as the good platform for Bangladesh
cricket as he believes that the tournament could produce players and bolster
the pipeline.

“It’s a big tournament for Bangladesh. It’s a tournament where the young
players get exposure and could make them known face,” he said.

“We have the players who have been in consistent cricket. Like we have
three players who played the SA Games and they played very competitive
cricket. We have no one in the team who can win the game single-handedly.
That’s why we focused on to play as a unit.”

This year’s BBPL is also seen as the platform of building a squad for the
World T20. Mushfiqur Rahim expected that they would get some more players to
create more options for every position.
