BIWTA excavating 450km areas of 38 rivers

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2019 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport
Authority (BIWTA) is working with a target of digging 450 kilometers in 38
rivers of the country during the 2019-20 fiscal and 31.28 percent work of the
dredging have been completed so far.

This was informed in the 14th meeting of the parliamentary standing
committee on the Ministry of Shipping at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here
today with committee chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair

Committee members – Ranjit Kumar Roy, Mahfuzur Rahman and M Abdul Latif
attended the meeting.

The parliamentary watchdog recommended the ministry and its divisions to
take pro-people and realistic projects.

The committee discussed different ongoing projects under Chattogram Port
Authority as well as BIWTC and recommended taking appropriate measures to
complete the projects within the stipulated timeframe.

Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad and officials concerned of the parliament
secretariat were also present in the meeting.
