DHAKA, Dec 9, 2019 (BSS) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood today urged people from all strata of life to raise voice against corruption and work together to prevent the social menace of the country.

He came up with the call while inaugurating a celebration event of the International Anti-Corruption Day in front of the ACC headquarters in the capital.

The ACC chairman said corruption is not merely a problem for Bangladesh, but also a global problem now.

Citing the findings of different studies, he said it is a hard task for a single country or agency to fight corruption alone.

But, he said, people from all works of life, including teachers, students, politicians, intellectuals, the government and media, should work together to build corruption-free society for the future generation.

Replying to a question, Mahmood said the national anti-graft agency wants to issue a clear message that the people who accumulated illegal wealth would not get escaped even though they flee the country. The corrupt people will not able to enjoy their assets as the ACC will always chase them, he added.

The ACC chairman inaugurated the event and a mass signature programme to raise awareness against graft. The mass signature programme will continue until December 14.

Besides, a human chain, led by its chairman, was formed in the capital where officials and employees of the head office and Dhaka Divisional Office, panel lawyers of the commission, members of Dhaka City Anti-Corruption Committee, Girls Guide, Boys Scout, Ansar and BNCC members took part in the event.

Human chain progarmmes, discussions, documentary screening, and cultural functions were also arranged at district and upazila levels as part of the International Anti-Corruption Day celebration.
