Fisheries dept re-excavates 15 ponds in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, June 05, 2018 (BSS) -With a view to increasing fish production,
the fisheries department is re-excavating 15 silted ponds in four upazilas of
the district.
Sources concerned said the work on the projects aimed at creating scopes of
income generation for the poor through fish cultivation is nearing
completion.
The department is implementing the work under two projects involving Taka
54.75 lakh and Taka 1.51 crore respectively with funds from the government.
Under the schemes, two ponds are being re-excavated in Shaghata upazila and
one in Palashbari upazila, two in Fulchhari upazila and 10 in Gobindaganj
upazila.
Gaibandha District Fisheries Officer Abdud Dayan said 95 percent work on
the projects has already been completed.
He said on completion of the projects additional 100 metric tonnes of carp
and indigenous fishes would be produced in the district.
